Although global in its reach, the Internet offers tremendous potential to local organizations. It can free up staff time, encourage greater participation of volunteers, and serve
as a cost-effective way to ``get the word out" about an agencies goals and accomplishments. It provides a means for volunteers, who otherwise might not get together, to work collaboratively towards a common
goal. It provides a ``bulletin board" of information available to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
